Great news: Potential agreement with 22-year-old is simply fantastic for Man United

The Manchester United fans are buzzing with the news breaking out of Old Trafford recently.

Left-back Luke Shaw is seemingly set to sign a new long-term deal with the club, after finally showing enough quality to win over hard to please Jose Mourinho.

The former Southampton man has had a torrid time at Old Trafford, with injuries, lack of form and generally being unfit having all added to his limited first-team opportunities.

Mourinho, according to our regulars, was right to call Shaw out last year, and it seems this tough love approach is paying off with Shaw finding himself with a run of games and a compliment from the manager in a recent press conference.

If Shaw does sign up to further years at Old Trafford, then it can only mean good things all around.

With that in mind, we takes a look at two reasons why it’s great news…

LONG-TERM PLANNING

Many on the bar have said it for a long time, Shaw could be the United full back for many years to come. Given his attributes and talent, he’s a perfect fit for the Red Devils and emulates many of the attacking left backs in the clubs history.

Mourinho can plan forward having Shaw and Antonio Valencia on the other side, it’s the makings of trying to get together a steady and consistent back-four.

We’ve seen just how important full-backs are these days to top clubs and a fully fit Shaw could be a fantastic sight in the years to come.

CONFIDENCE

Being rewarded with a long-term contract will do Shaw’s confidence the world of good. Knowing that he’s earned it with his hard work and recent displays should push the England man onwards, potentially embarking on the upward trajectory many expected him to rise to during his early days.

Many of the punters think that Shaw is very much a confidence player and, with how he’s turned the whole situation around at Old Trafford, this should make him bulletproof in the future.
