Manchester United Consider Surprise Paul Pogba Swap Deal With PSG

Manchester United are considering a sensational swap deal with Paris Saint-Germain involving Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti, according to reports.

The 24-year-old returned to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 from Juventus in what was then a world record £89million deal but he has shown only flashes of his true potential.

Pogba has struggled to find a defined role in Jose Mourinho’s set-up and has recently suffered the ignominy of being dropped for rookie Scott McTominay, while injuries have also hindered his battle to find his best form.

The Independent claims that United chiefs are optimistic that the damage that has been done to the relationship between Pogba and Mourinho can still be healed, but work is still to be done in that regard.

With that in mind, intermediaries have been involved in concocting alternative plans should the rift between the pair widen.

One idea has seen United consider the possibility of exchanging Pogba, who has been a long-term target of PSG’s, with Italy international Verratti.

The report suggests such a deal would be complicated but not impossible, especially considering both players are represented by super agent Mino Raiola, although United’s priority is to help Pogba fulfill his potential at Old Trafford.

Mourinho’s determination to oversee United’s rebuild has only been hardened by last night’s damaging Champions League defeat to Sevilla.

The Portuguese wants at least four new players this summer with a new central defender a priority. Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti are reported to be his primary targets.
