Man United respond to failure in signing star players: report

Manchester United will reportedly respond to their failure in signing star players by appointing a director of football soon.

Jose Mourinho was left frustrated when he handed a list of players he wanted to bring into the club months ago but only received one major signing.

That major signing was Fred while United also invested in back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant and youngster Diogo Dalot.

It was said Mourinho still wanted key areas to be addressed such as the centre-back, left-back and right-wing positions but nothing came of it.

Vice-Executive chairman Ed Woodward is believed to have had disagreements over the targets and therefore didn’t look to invest in them.

According to the Guardian, the Red Devils will appoint their first ever director of football once the facilities and restructuring of the club are completed.

Despite the appointment in the role that is traditionally a buffer between the manager and board, Woodward is said to still have a key say in transfers.

Jose is also understood to play a role still in recruitment but the feeling is he will often be overruled.

United fans were already disappointed with the club’s owners for their apparent refusal to back the Portuguese manager and this news is hardly going to satisfy them either.
