Andreas Pereira praised Paul Pogba for his performance as the French midfielder helped to inspire Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Friday night.
Pogba was handed the captain’s armband at Old Trafford as the midfielder started the Premier League opener despite only having just returned from his extended summer holiday after the World Cup.
The midfielder netted from the penalty spot as he helped Manchester United claim all three points in their opening game of the new Premier League season.
And Pereira believes that Pogba has proved just what good physical shape he is in with his performance for the Red Devils on Friday night.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Pereira said: “[Paul] was very good. A player like him doesn’t need a pre-season.
“He played the World Cup not so long ago and played today, which shows how fit he is.”
Pogba’s situation at Old Trafford has been something of a source of uncertainty in recent months following his inconsistent displays for the Red Devils last season.
He was praised for his strong performances for France as he helped his national team to win the World Cup in Russia this summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after they finished second and without a trophy last term.
