Manchester United have opened talks to sign Flamengo midfielder Lucas Paqueta, according to reports in France.
The 21-year-old is widely regarding as one of the brightest young prospects in South America and has already been capped twice by Brazil.
Paqueta, an attacking midfielder, has scored six goals and has registered six assists in 28 appearances for Flamengo this season.
According to Le10 Sport, Paqueta’s performances have alerted Manchester United and the club are now in talks over a potential deal with Flamengo.
But Jose Mourinho’s side face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who have also entered discussions with the Brazilian club.
Paqueta has a €50 million (£44.4 million) release clause in his contract but a deal could be completed for around €40m (£35.5m).
AC Milan and Barcelona have also been linked with the midfielder.
