MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho admits not all his star attackers can play in his starting XI – but Marcus Rashford will be tomorrow night.
Manchester United take on Young Boys in their first Champions League match of the season in Switzerland.
Before United’s win at Watford at the weekend, manager Mourinho hit back at criticism levelled at him for not starting Rashford more often by producing a statistical analysis of the youngster’s appearances under his command.
Rashford started United’s opening game of the season against Leicester, came off the bench at Brighton and Burnley, was an unused substitute against Tottenham and missed the win at Watford because he was serving the first part of his suspension for his red card at Turf Moor.
But following two goals for England over the international break, the talented youngster will be given a start against Young Boys.
But Mourinho has warned the media not to make a big deal of things when his team is announced, admitting someone from the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial might have to make way for Rashford.
“He is selected for the game but I just want to remind you, in advance, that we can only start with XI,” Mourinho told reporters in today’s press conference.
“So when you see the team tomorrow, you can try to speak about the ones that are going to play and not the ones that are not going to play.
“So, we have Lukaku, Rashford, Mata, Alexis, Martial and they can not play all together.
“So, try to be a little bit happy with the ones that are playing and not be critical with the ones that are not playing.”
Mourinho also revealed Luke Shaw will start the match while Antonio Valencia has been left out of the squad.
The Portuguese says the artificial pitch is not ideal for the experienced defender and he wants to protect his knee.
Jesse Lingard has also been left at home after picking up a knock against Watford.
“We didn’t bring Valencia because his knee is not a knee that needs an artificial pitch,” Mourinho added.
“Luke Shaw is back in the team, he will play tomorrow. We have Diogo Dalot, Ashley Young and [Matteo] Darmian ready to play too.”
Shaw will make his first appearance for United since suffering a nasty concussion on international duty.
The defender clashed with Spain’s Dani Carvajal in England’s 2-1 defeat at Wembley and had to be stretchered off.
Dalot, who signed from Porto in the summer, could be set for his first appearance of the season.
