MANCHESTER UNITED star Luke Shaw is refusing to put pen to paper over a new contract because he is still furious with Jose Mourinho over two years of criticism.
The Englishman has fought hard for his first-team place after years of criticism from Mourinho.
This season, though, he has been a standout performer in an underwhelming campaign for the Red Devils – who have floundered at times already this year.
There have been problems on and off the pitch for United, with the latest result stopping a run of four games without a win.
Newcastle went 2-0 up in 10 minutes on Saturday but the Old Trafford outfit managed to fight back to claim a dramatic 3-2 win.
It helped Mourinho stave off reports that he would sacked at the weekend regardless of the result.
But The Special One has more problems with his squad after alienating a number of players.
Some names include Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Antonio Valencia and Shaw.
And according to the Daily Mail, the former Southampton defender is refusing to start negotiations with the club over a new deal because of the Portuguese coach.
He has reportedly not forgotten about the torrents of criticism he received over the years, despite now falling into favour.
Shaw is out of contract at the end of the season but has no intention of signing a new one with Mourinho in charge, the Daily Mail report.
However, there is an option to extend his contract by a year to 2020.
The 22-year-old was called up to the England squad last week but has had to pull out after suffering from injury.
It means that he will be a serious doubt going into the crucial clash with Chelsea on October 20.
Ashley Young is the club’s only other option at left-back, with Marcos Rojo also crocked this season.
Shaw has already stated his determination this season to break into the first-team was due to Mourinho’s tough love.
Speaking earlier this season about the criticism he has received from Mourinho, he said: “It was a tough few years.
“But it made me stronger mentally. I wanted to prove to him I can do what he said I couldn’t.”
