MANCHESTER UNITED could sign Kalidou Koulibaly AND Douglas Costa in the wake of an eventful day in Serie A.
Manchester United have been linked with Juventus and Napoli stars Costa and Koulibaly ahead of the January transfer window.
And, after an enthralling Boxing Day of Serie A action, all signs point to the duo rocking up at Old Trafford in January.
It has been a wretched season for Manchester United so far but, at long last, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The misery of the Jose Mourinho era has now made way for a resurgence under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In the eyes of Red Devils supporters, long may it continue.
Solskjaer is, officially, here until the end of the season. Express Sport understands that was a decision made with the view of getting Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino in in the summer.
But United may still yet invest in their squad.
And Costa and Koulibaly now look more attainable than ever following a dramatic day of Serie A action.
Koulibaly saw his Napoli side lose 1-0 to Inter Milan at the San Siro.
But the Senegal international was subjected to vile racist chants in the crowd as the match went on.
Racism remains an ongoing problem in football and Italian football, in particular, has a long history of it.
Over the years, many players have suffered abuse at the hands of vile supporters. Mario Balotelli, Sulley Muntari and Patrick Vieira have all been among them.
Koulibaly came out bullish after the match, saying: “I’m sorry for the loss, but especially for letting my brothers down.
“I’m proud of the color of my skin; to be French, Senegalese, Neapolitan, and a man.”
And, given Italian football’s history of racism, that could pave the way for United to snap him up.
Regarding Costa, and the Red Devils also have hope.
The Brazilian was sparkling during Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Atalanta yesterday.
But, with 10 minutes left on the clock, he was hooked in favour of Paulo Dybala.
Given how Juventus needed a goal – and chose to take off Costa – it may be the final straw for the Samba star.
He is a blockbuster asset but, over in Turin, is no longer trusted to be a match winner.
And, given United’s interest in him, it is not unfeasible to see Costa jump ship in January.
