Wayne Rooney attended Manchester United’s win over Huddersfield on Boxing Day – much to the delight of a number of his former teammates.
The Reds’ all-time record goalscorer was in the stands at Old Trafford to watch his old club put three goals past David Wagner’s Yorkshire strugglers, with Paul Pogba supplementing Nemanja Matic’s first-half opener with a second-half brace.
The result stabilised United’s position in sixth place in the Premier League and they ended the day just six points off fifth-placed Arsenal after Unai Emery’s side were held by Brighton at the Amex.
Rooney’s last appearance for United came as a substitute in the Europa League final in May 2017 and he played against the Reds for Everton twice last season, losing on both occasions.
The 33-year-old remains a fan favourite at Old Trafford and he’s clearly still a popular figure inside the dressing room, if these pictures uploaded by Paul Pogba and co are anything to go by:
David de Gea.
So, there you have it. Jesse Lingard, Fred and David de Gea reckon Rooney is a legend – and they’re not wrong!
Pogba, meanwhile, reckons Rooney is Santa Claus. He might just be wrong with that one.
